GBBO For Sport Relief

Wednesday, 3 February 2016

Weirdly, I will be on The Great British BakeOff tonight, at 8pm on BBC One. It’s a special episode in aid of the BBC appeal for Sport Relief and my fellow bakers are (surreally enough) the sportsman and presenter Chris Kamara, politician Ed Balls, and Kimberley Walsh from Girls Aloud.

No spoilers here, but i think I am going to publish my prizewinning OR LOSING recipes in the Observer this Sunday, and this blog post (or a new one) will be open for comments from anyone who tries cooking them…

Loved your work tonight on GBBO! Thought you were very funny and came across as charming and down to earth.

Hi Victoria - a big fan, especially when you’re making Bloody Mary muffins! Was curious: were you pregnant when this was filmed? Was assuming not, or was your vodka swapped out for water? Lovely to see you back on primetime television. Hope all is well with Barbara and that you and David are getting some sleep!

Did you actually measure out 16 tablespoons of milk?  I thought at that point it might be easier to use a measurement like 1/4 cup or something.

Are sunblush tomatoes dried tomatoes ? It’s not a term I am familiar with.

Hi Chris. You’re right about the spoons - I just kept adding until it felt like the right amount. For giving the recipe it would have been better to re-measure and give it in ml, but I’m afraid I was too lazy to cook them again!

Sunblush tomatoes are like sundried (they are preserved in a jar, not fresh) but a bit lighter in flavour. I find sundried a bit strong.
