Have I Got News For You
Friday, 30 May 2014
I’m on it tonight! 9pm, BBC One. Also extended edition on Monday at 10.45pm.
I think the recording (last night) went fine - certainly Ian and Paul were on great form, Alexander Armstrong was a terrific host as always and the other guest (comedian Joe Wilkinson) was brilliant, really funny. No idea how I did, because I was too nervous to be able to hear myself speak, but I managed not to fall over or shout anything obscene in the middle, so I’ll say it wasn’t a total disaster.
I’m on Paul’s team this week, but - remembering how ridiculous I looked last time I was next to him - this time I asked for a cushion. Ha! Whether I said anything good or not, I bet I look nice and TALL.

You looked at least 5’9. Well, no…you didn’t really…but I didn’t baulk at any insane height difference between you both behind the desk so the cushion must have done the trick! How tall are you, anyway? I’d guess you are about my height - a teensy bit under 5’5..am I right? But me going on about height like this makes it sound as if you didn’t say anything good - and you DID! Lots of good things were said by you. Can you go on “Would I Lie to You?” again please? I love it so much that I actually curse my good memory for ruining the repeats for me!

Very funny episode! I’d never seen Joe Wilkinson before, I liked him. I’m sorry I can’t remember anything specific you said like in the Godfrey Bloom episode but there seemed to be lots of funny things and it went by very fast.

BBC2 tonight a repeat edition of QI with both Victoria Coren and Sue Perkins on! “Ah panel-shows were paradise now!” ( with apologies to Mr Colerige)

Yes, Mister Merton is a surprisingly tall person. I saw in him Sainsbury’s in Tottenham Court Road once, he wore a suit and had that anxious, contrived demeanour famous people often have when out and about, almost seemingly aware of the Stella Street vibe they confer on everything.

apologies to Omar Kayam for suggesting that Coleridge wrote his epic poem. A senior moment!

Hi Victoria, big fan - unusual thing to ask you - I’ve wrote a Comedy for TV and have no idea how to get this in front of the right people….and advise for New (not so young 49) year old script writer. Thanks and jai ho !

Hi Manni - I don’t know either, I’m afraid! I think the BBC sometimes do ‘reach out’ schemes where they invite new writers to send stuff in - but I’m sure if you sent a script to the right BBC department at any point, it would get read. I’ve never done that sort of thing myself, so don’t know any more than that.
