Hurry Hurry For Only Connect
Saturday, 5 June 2010
There’s going to be a new series! We’re filming it in the summer for broadcast later this year.
A little while ago, I tweeted the address to write to if you wanted to submit a team: there are now just THREE DAYS LEFT to do that. If you have a team good enough for Only Connect, send an email to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and you will receive an online application form (which will of course, either immediately or at a later stage, involve some sort of aptitude test) which must be sent back in the next week.
Remember, there need to be three of you on the team - though don’t worry too much about the connection between you. As long as you have three great quizzers, it doesn’t matter if you don’t have an obvious connection already; the production team can always grill you until they discover that you all love opera, or you all hate ballet, or you all fear spiders or take your holidays in Rye. There’ll be something. The main thing is, can you do the quiz?

Hello Victoria,
Totally off-topic sorry but I meant to send this picture to you a little while ago when I read For Richer For Poorer. I would tweet it to you except I don’t have an account sorry. Anyway, reading the very moving part about remembering being with your Dad as a young girl, I was a bit surprised at the boat you described…

Do you still have yours? No idea how many they made. Anyway, we live in New Zealand now so it’s sailed a long way.
Very much enjoy your writing and broadcasting in its various guises. Good luck with it all.
Cheers.

No way that they would fly us from Abu Dhabi is there?
Victoria Coren at 8:40 am on June 7th, 2010
I’m afraid I don’t think so. Not on a BBC4 budget…

Chalkie, what you need is someone to set up a World Only Connect Tour, an annual series of events where OC players can meet and pit their wits against each other before a grand final in its spiritual home of Cardiff.
Setting up the WOCT would be tough so perhaps there will need to be some other developments first. Perhaps there could be “Only Connect: The Live Show” (a tour of arenas with a 40ft square connecting wall) or “Only Connect Late” (a post-watershed TV version of the show). Who knows what the full potential of the format is?
Who could be the Simon Cowell of highbrow BBC4 quiz shows, leading the quest for world domination?

Hi Vicky, I’m probably too late to apply for Only Connect, but have two questions.
1 Could there be a team category for ‘Artists who predicted the Cosmos should be accelerating apart’?
2 Would being on the show increase the likelihood of a date with you?
Victoria Coren at 6:46 pm on June 7th, 2010
Hmm. I think the answers to those questions would be “Why not?” and “Goodness me, you wouldn’t want one.”
Good luck with the application!

Wow, a date with VC…. a whole new aspect to your blog and subsequent TV programmes. A night with VC…You could write twitter updates every few minutes! Wow, classical music, fine red wine, laughter, stylish surroundings… then off for fish and chips at the local… sounds good to me! However, having watched Only Connect, is it true you are only 4ft 8?!.....
Now to the serious stuff, please can you tell me how one person can play poker for 115 hours? It may be a world record… but who would want to play non stop for 115 hours?! Ah back to a date with you….
Markjb at 8:01 pm on June 7th, 2010
Vicky ... are those the answers to both questions?
You’re right, I wouldn’t want one ...it would have to be several for sure x

Dear Victoria,
The teenager I’m dating introduced me to Only Connect and we LOVE IT. Definitely the best thing on tv. She fancies you a teeny bit in a straight way. I fancy her but she looks just like you. Together we have great fun with the show, as our lateral thinking procures us more points than UC, making us smug. Thanks and keep up the good work :-)
Bye! x

I thought that was the prize for the winning captain - an evening out with Victoria Coren - second prize an evening with Jeremy Paxman - third prize 2 evenings with Jeremy Paxman.
