Only Connect has been nominated for an award! It’s in the TV Choice awards! How exciting, we’re on a list with lots of proper famous quizzes that are on mainstream TV channels and everything.
You will vote for us, won’t you, if you’re an OC fan? There are loads of other categories before you get to ‘best quiz’ or ‘best game show’ or whatever it’s called, but what I like about the ballot is that for each one you have the option of choosing “I would not like to vote in this category”. That’s extremely handy if you, like me, find that the list of “Best plotlines in soap” might as well be written in Japanese.
No doubt the person collating the votes, looking at my choices for Best Drama, Best Actor, Best Quiz, and where I chose not to vote at all, now knows exactly what sort of crime I’m likely to commit.

It’s a bit rum putting OC in the “game show” category. BLANKETY BLANK, CATCHPHRASE and FAMILY FORTUNES are gameshows, and all that’s required to appear or present these shows is the IQ of a sponge,and a tolerance for public humiliation! anyway victoria i have just voted for OC so now at least you have two votes! xx

I’ve just voted for you-know-what. I take it this is the first time OC’s been nominated. If so, that’s a shocking oversight - it should have been nominated long before now!
It’s worth the entire licence fee just to hear your dulcet tones every Monday night…

I feel torn. I love Only Connect for its rarefied feel and cleverness. I’m not sure the TV Quick [Choice! - Mod] awards are totally well fitted to it. Isn’t that for programmes like Ant & Dec? To hell with it, I will vote anyway. Good luck.

Vote duly cast… (only actually voted in 2 categories… my knowledge of “best soap newcomer” being rather deficient). That’s at least 5 votes… a positive ROMP to victory!

Hmmm, I like Only Connect ... and I like TV Burp ... but which is better .... oh hang on, it’s OK, they are in different categories.

Hi Victoria, I’ve clicked the link, indulged my sci fi passion by voting for Dr Who & Stargate Universe, skipped past the soap categories as you wisely recommended, & voted for Only Connect.
I was tempted by Total Wipeout. It’s hard to resist the mud and the big balls, but my loyalty to you and your witty charm won me over. That and the idea of submitting Speam Toonerism for a future OC so that we can ask for the “Whore of Eyeus” and the “flisted twats” ... but I fear that the water wall would be our undoing.

I voted for OC. I had to skip quite a few categories (like soaps) but there were also some good programmes shown (Sherlock, Vexed, Hustle etc)

Hmm, some of those survey questions needed careful thought before I voted. There was a definite tie in my mind with OC and HIGNFY, but I decided that as you feature in the first every time I would give that my vote. So I hope at least one of those wins for that category.

Aw… Mike and Tim, you’re both lovely but once again I’m going to have to issue the warning that there mustn’t be too many compliments on this site or it’ll get horrific for passing browsers. Have warned the moderators to keep a close eye on the compliment count and edit if need be! But thank you… much appreciated.

Apparently someone on EBAY has bid £83k for the risible hat worn by one of fergie’s daughters to the royal wedding. Leaving aside the fact it made her look like one of the TELLYTUBBIES, if her hat is worth £83K, how much would be bid for pippa middleton’s knickers? This has nothing to do with this thread,but it is an important question that needed to be asked.

Unfortunately it’s inevitable that this blog is riddled with compliments, but I have to say that much of the time you do little to discourage it through all the self-deprecation. I’m sure it’s genuine on your part, but if you want to discourage vomit inducing posts from people who feel as though they know you, then you should probably keep such thoughts to yourself.

Every Friday I turn to the new Radio Times hoping for a new series of Only Connect only to find nothing there. As there is nothing else worth watching now that The Crimson Petal and the White has ended, I need urgently to know who to write to at the BBC to ask for a new series. We need more wit and fun in our lives and you can provide it.

No need to write anywhere, Jonathan! There will definitely be a new series, and I believe it starts in August. Possibly early September. The broadcast dates will certainly be announced in the news section of this website when they’re decided.

Happy to vote for our favourite TV programme . A sobering experience to scroll through all the Soap categories . And there should be a device for registering negative votes (Top Gear anyone ?).
Following your piece on Cheryl Cole and dumbing down, Victoria, I believe I have found the diametric opposite of ONLY CONNECT. It’s any form of entertainment on a Cruise Ship . Favourite moment on the Daily TV Preview recently when the “Entertainment ” Director rounded on his deputy in panic and announced. “No it’s not a classical concert , it’s just a string quartet “in concert” . Yikes ! What a relief. . . . .
