The head band doesn’t quite match your dress, but I notice that you often carry a similarly coloured bag at poker tournaments.  Is that headband part of your attire when you sweat a poker hand?

Emma H at 10:13 pm on March 19th, 2012

Loved the episode! Mark Gatiss is more my hero than ever now.

DaveC at 4:21 pm on March 20th, 2012

Just heard the news! Huge congratulations to you both, and my very best wishes.  :)

The Tim at 5:30 pm on March 20th, 2012

Congratulations on your engagement to David Mitchell - there’ll be thousands of secret admirers with broken hearts now - and maybe a few of your venerators too. Well done for managing to keep it fairly secret from us.

BTW - really liked the show - a little easier than usual. Idi - the headband doesn’t match her dress - you can’t be serious!

The Tim at 5:38 pm on March 20th, 2012

It must be a fairly recent thing - you weren’t wearing a ring on your third finger during the recording. Did you propose to him on 29th February?

Victoria Coren at 6:32 pm on March 20th, 2012

No!! I’m a very old-fashioned girl. Thanks for the congratulations, it’s all very lovely and we’re really happy.

Jon at 7:22 pm on March 20th, 2012

Bit - off topic - but it’s your most recent blog - congrats to you both.

stephen at 8:17 pm on March 20th, 2012

Last night’s show was great….really liked the Alan Partridge TV show ideas section, and Ian Hislop was good value as always. I’m not on Twitter so is it alright if I say congratulations on your engagement on here? That’s lovely news, Dave Mitchell is a very lucky fella! Big Hug.

Gaylene at 8:18 pm on March 20th, 2012

Fabulous episode, but was it a little easier than usual? Loved the Thatcher boa constrictor!  Congratulations on your lovely news.

Neil Kennedy at 9:09 pm on March 20th, 2012

Congratulations!

Keep playing, babes ........

(Babes - bloody hell, did I just say that?)

AndytheDealer at 9:15 pm on March 20th, 2012

Congratulations Vicky!

I wish you both all the best.

David Young at 10:23 pm on March 20th, 2012

Congratulations. Britain needs an intellectual ‘David and Victoria’.

Richard C at 11:08 pm on March 20th, 2012

Hello! Random happy hugs from the internet :-) Lovely news, Best of wishes for the future.

SloeLoris at 11:36 pm on March 20th, 2012

Congratulations, Ms Coren!
(In the spirit of imagined internet intimacy I shower you with virtual hugs, cheek-*mwah!*s and hi-fives.)

Gerber Gruntwhistle at 11:43 pm on March 20th, 2012

Miss Vicky,
Your affianced is a wonderful man and I wish you both every happiness but you were supposed to be mine and I am very sad tonight.

Kate at 1:04 am on March 21st, 2012

Dear Victoria,
You are my absolute girl crush and my husband is always adamant that he and David would be best mates if the stars aligned correctly (translation: man crush), and we are both crushed that you have binned us for each other. But also wish you every happiness cos you’re both fab. Keep doing what you do, even in wedded bliss xx

Martin Short at 1:46 am on March 21st, 2012

Sorry to post here but this seems to be the only place I can. I would just like to wish you and David (two of my favourite public figures) all the very best for the future. Your children will be formidable!

Sue and Malcolm Simpkin at 7:01 am on March 21st, 2012

Congratulations from us too.  A wonderful surprise, but you are a pairing that feels completely perfect.  We hope that you are able to maintain your privacy and have a wonderful life together.

Lesley W at 9:13 am on March 21st, 2012

I’m so happy for you both.  I had you put together years ago!  Perfect.

Marc Turner at 11:02 am on March 21st, 2012

Congratulations to the both of you.  I hope you have kids, because they will be superhuman - in a pedantic, grammatically correct manner.

PS Could you and David bring back Balderdash and Piffle?

A Filipina Fan at 11:40 am on March 21st, 2012

Miss Coren
Congratulations to you and Mr Mitchell for such wonderful news. Best wishes to you both!

xx

Jason Twigg at 11:41 am on March 21st, 2012

Congratulations on your engagement to David.  I wish you every happiness together.
It’s good to know that things have worked out so well, you deserve to be really really happy.
There have been rumours about you both on the internet for some time, so it’s nice to have a definite joyful outcome, although I have rather enjoyed trying to discern the fact from the fiction, a bit like poker, but real life.
When will we hear the proposal story, or are you saving that for your next book?  My guess is that it either happened around Christmas/new year or back in early June 2011 and you’ve kept quiet about it until now that the Only Connect special has aired.

Kevin at 11:53 am on March 21st, 2012

two of my most favourite writers/celebs/whatevers in the country, delighted for you both, seem a perfect match! (and not even bitter my marriage proposal to you, via your agent, was dismissed a few years back) :)

Jason Twigg at 11:54 am on March 21st, 2012

Why do I guess June 2011?  This tweet, (why else the “And”?) :

Donald Smith at 12:07 pm on March 21st, 2012

Hello Victoria, first time poster. You’re my favourite presenter and I also enjoyed “For Richer, For Poorer”. You deserve every happiness and I’m sure you will find it with Mr Mitchell. Many congratulations to you both.

RJ at 4:27 pm on March 21st, 2012

Didn’t you meet Richey Edwards from the Manic Street Preachers in 1994?

Alan G at 5:33 pm on March 21st, 2012

Another message of congratulations from a stranger.  Like many, I feel that I know you a bit from your writing (For Richer for Poorer has taken over from Big Deal as my favourite poker book of all time), and I have been a long time fan of David as well - hatefully clever, league of his own funny, and an obviously nice guy.
When I heard the news I immediately thought what a perfect match it seems, and I really hope it goes as well as you both deserve.
I look forward to seeing you both at the tables!

Nick McD at 7:15 pm on March 21st, 2012

Best wishes to you and young Mr Mitchell. I am sure tears are being shed, and clothing rent by people of all persuasions, in remorse that you have committed to each other. (Love the comment about ‘David and Victoria’)

Maggie at 7:56 pm on March 21st, 2012

Further congratulations from here. I don’t know which of you I’m more jealous of but you make a lovely couple and I’m delighted for both of you. Here’s to a long and happy marriage.

lightning at 9:00 pm on March 21st, 2012

Also joining in to send my congratulations to you and David on your engagement. Love and best wishes from Canada.

mick at 11:27 pm on March 21st, 2012

If I was 30 years younger I would have been chasing after you myself. All very best wishes for a long and rewarding marriage

mick at 11:50 pm on March 21st, 2012

Is he any good at poker? You are not lulling him into a false sense of security before you impoverish him at the poker table ?

mordantfox at 12:23 pm on March 22nd, 2012

GUTTED! Sick as a parrot! Well, almost….I’m over the moon, actually.  But remember, Vicks, it’s a game of two halves, and you must come out fighting second half!

Billy O at 2:49 pm on March 22nd, 2012

Congratulations.
I am very glad to hear you have hooked up with that fab guy from “The Peep Show”. He is wonderful - although the other one, the dark haired chap, can be a bit of a wimp.
I’m just joking, or trying to. I think this is fab news and I wish you both all the happiness. We now have the new Posh and Becks of the quiz world. Does David often get called Posh and how is your left foot?

Sir William Ormerod
ps. you are invited to my wake - hint.

kay brown at 11:16 am on March 24th, 2012

Just wanted to give my congratulations - loved your book and have admired you since first seeing you on tv.  It’s great to see a clever and amusing woman being successful, even more so when it’s in a man’s world like poker.  As soon as I heard the rumours that you and Mr. Mitchell were seeing each other I thought what a great combination you’d make.  Wishing you a long and happy life together xxxxx

rec at 3:46 pm on March 24th, 2012

Quite the most delightful news in ages.  Wishing you both the greatest happiness.

Nick at 8:48 pm on March 24th, 2012

Vicky Coren - i think i love you!

King John II at 11:50 pm on March 27th, 2012

Is it me? or is there seemingly no end these days to one supposedly ’ good cause ’ or another having its hand in your pocket almost on a daily basis.
As they say, charity begins at home, and as I say stays at home too!
