Richard Herring’s Podcast
Thursday, 8 January 2015
I am a guest on the latest Richard Herring Leicester Square podcast; the episode is up here
http://www.comedy.co.uk/podcasts/richard_herring_lst_podcast/episode_59_victoria_coren_mitchell/
There’s a download link on that page and it’s also on iTunes - and youtube, though it’s a fairly basic filmed version and would be nice if anyone watching it there would make a donation via the link above, which supports Mr Herring’s crackpot enterprise.
It’s probably the oddest interview I’ve ever done, but I mean that in a good way: Richard (a lovely fellow) is a very smart, funny, surprising, left-field interviewer and makes it a really fun and interesting thing to do.

Never heard anything like the story about “Sir William Ormerod” and was delighted to hear playful and elaborate acts of mischievousness in the name of morality are done by grown-ups! Fun! xx

Victoria, i enjoyed the podcast, but was a little disappointed that when discussing your making of the porn movie, you didnt tell Richard the limerick which begins"there was a quiz host called vicky….etc.he has the scatalogical sense of humour that would have enjoyed it.

also one of the funniest for a while. You two had chemistry.if only he had not been so upset when you said he was the least attractive one…..who knows what may have happened.

Richard Herring should be knighted for the work he’s done on RHLSTP. He’s done so many fantastic interviews - the kind of interviews you would never see on television.

Great interview. Just to clear up a common misconception Richard had - an infinite universe does not mean everything happens somewhere. It is easily possible to have an infinite number of Richards buying scratchcards and losing. As proof: there are an infinite number of numbers between 1 and 2… but none of them are 3.

In the audience that evening – new to RHLSTP, so we, too, were startled by Richard’s opening remarks and felt a bit anxious too. BUT thought – come on, this is Victoria, she can cope! We soon relaxed and had great fun – you are very entertaining, interesting , wonderfully funny and lovely.
Have since watched most of Richard’s other interviews – so much better than usual tv ones - guests do seem to like him and enjoy themselves. I now subscribe to Go Faster Stripe – long may they prosper. Your dressing room chat was great – he’ll have to rethink how to present that theory to a woman….

Is it just me or did I find his behavior cringeworthy and his questions somewhat creepy and disrepectful? That said, you most certainly kept your composure, sense of humour, and politely guided the interview across the finish line in the spirit of good fun. Seriously, he was way out of his depth and should have been better prepared for what had the potential of being an insightful and interesting interview. Thanks for trying to keep it upbeat and positive!

I think Richard Herring is my favourite interviewer. There are loads of more serious interviewers out there who ‘stay on topic’ and ‘ask thoughtful, insightful questions’, but not many who can get people to have a such a long, jokey, surreal, rambling conversation and he so often does. It makes it a different kind of interview, you see a different side of the person being interviewed than you would in a ‘proper’ interview, and personally I just find his interviews really entertaining and amusing. This one was awesome, very fun to listen to!

I’m really pleased to see that you have finally done RHLSTP, Victoria. How did it take RH so long to get you on? Haven’t watched it yet but looking forward to seeing it very soon.

Nothing to do with this podcast but may I just say, as a proud Scot, that was a damn sexy Scottish accent for the Robert Burns question on last week’s show. Is it all these visits to the Edinburgh Festival Victoria?

Ha! In years gone by, when I was in Edinburgh I’d try to do the accent just to see if I could get away with it - to keep my hand in, you know. Never got challenged on it, I’m proud to say. But I daren’t try it now because if by some freak of chance someone knew who I was and knew I was faking it, it would be SO EMBARRASSING. So that was my first chance to try it out in years. Thanks very much for the approval!

I live in southern Ontario and only know her from the poker shows that they show on TV at the bars late in the afternoon. Usually the sound is off so didn’t even know she was British! Seems like an interesting person and look forward to looking into what she has done other than poker. G’day.
