Victoria Coren Mitchell - Writer, Broadcaster & Poker Player

New Year, New Competitions

Saturday, 1 January 2011

January is a big poker month; Victoria will be kicking it off at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in Nassau. She’s played there twice before and cashed in the Main Event both times, so will be hoping it remains a lucrative location. But she’s also planning to play side events, if suddenly free from the main…
[Update: Victoria didn’t cash in the main event this year, but made the final of the ladies’ tournament, finishing 4th for $9312].

After that, it will be beautiful Normandy for the EPT Deauville, where the field is supposed to be softer but Victoria has never cashed. Still, never say never.
[Update: Once again, Victoria failed to cash in the Deauville EPT, but had a great day on PokerStars in her hotel room, winning an $1100 SNG for $4400 then finishing 4th in the Saturday $109 rebuy tournament for $10,567].

Also on a poker theme, look out for Victoria in a broadcast from the 2010 EPT London on Channel 4, the night of January 4th.

The recent Only Connect tournament is finished - but there are two exciting specials to come before the end of the series. On Monday January 10th, we’ve got a new Champion of Champions special, where the winners of series 3 (The Gamblers) will play the winners of series 4 (The Epicureans).

The following Monday, January 17th, sees the long-awaited battle between Only Connect giants The Crossworders and a star team from University Challenge. Both of the specials will be on BBC Four at 8.30pm.

Also, a new series of Only Connect has been commissioned, which will be broadcast later in 2011. If you want to apply to be on it, there are only a few days left so send your email quickly to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

  Happy New Year.
